Indiana Kelley MBA Application Guide: What to Know for 2025-2026
Indiana University's Kelley School of Business offers a collaborative MBA with strong consulting, marketing, and finance placement. The 2025-2026 application includes a career goals essay, a personal reflection, and a fun fact.
Application Components for 2025-2026
Essay 1: Career Goals (500 words)
"Discuss your immediate post-MBA professional goals. How will your professional experience, when combined with a Kelley MBA degree, allow you to achieve these goals? Should the short-term goals you have identified not materialize, what alternate career paths might you consider?"
This is a comprehensive career essay that also asks for contingency planning. Kelley wants to see that you have thought realistically about your future.
Strategy tip: The alternate career path question is unique to Kelley. Do not treat it as a throwaway. Choose an alternate that makes strategic sense given your background and shows flexibility. Saying "I would pivot to consulting" when your primary goal is also consulting does not demonstrate range.
Essay 2: Personal Reflection (Choose 1 of 4, 300 words)
Respond to one of the following:
- a. My greatest memory is...
- b. I am most afraid of...
- c. My greatest challenge has been...
- d. I am most proud of...
Strategy tip: Choose the prompt that reveals something the rest of your application does not capture. Each prompt invites vulnerability and self-awareness:
- Greatest memory: Choose something formative, not just impressive
- Most afraid of: Show self-awareness and courage in naming fears
- Greatest challenge: Show resilience and growth
- Most proud of: Share something personally meaningful, not just professionally notable
Fun Fact (25 words)
"Share a brief fact about yourself that your classmates would find interesting, surprising, or noteworthy."
At 25 words, make it memorable. "I once hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in 4 months" beats "I enjoy outdoor activities."
Recommendations
Kelley requires two professional recommendations with standard questions.
What Makes Kelley Different This Cycle
Kelley's personal reflection essays create space for applicants to show genuine character. For 2025-2026, the career goals plus personal reflection combination lets candidates demonstrate both strategic thinking and authentic personality.
