Michigan Ross MBA Application Guide: What to Know for 2025-2026
Michigan Ross is known for its action-based learning philosophy, where students apply concepts to real-world challenges from day one. The 2025-2026 application features two essays.
Essay Prompts for 2025-2026
Essay 1: Career Goals & Action-Based Learning (300 words)
"What is your short-term career goal, and how will Ross' philosophy in Action-Based Learning help you achieve it? Please be specific. Please answer both parts of this question."
Ross is explicit: answer both parts. Do not spend 250 words on career goals and 50 words on Ross. Split your attention evenly.
Strategy tip: Reference specific action-based learning programs like MAP (Multidisciplinary Action Projects), IMAP (International MAP), or the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. Show that you understand how Ross's learning-by-doing philosophy accelerates career goals.
Essay 2: Personal (Choose 1 of 4 prompts, 200 words)
"Michigan Ross is proud to support a community of leaders and impact makers. Choose 1 of the following prompts:
A. What makes you unique?
B. Describe a time you overcame a personal challenge.
C. What are you passionate about and what makes you feel alive?
D. Describe a time when you made a difference in your community or with an individual."
Strategy tip: Choose the prompt where you can be most specific and personal. At 200 words, there is no room for setup - get straight to the story.
- Prompt A works well if you have a genuinely distinctive trait or experience
- Prompt B suits candidates who have overcome meaningful obstacles
- Prompt C is for people with deep, genuine passions outside of work
- Prompt D highlights community impact and generosity
Recommendations
Ross requires two professional recommendations with standard questions about strengths, development areas, and leadership.
